Lercara

Specs

Technology: Solar
Capacity: 37.2 MW
Status: Under development
Country: Italy
Area: Palermo (Sicily)

The Lercara solar photovoltaic plant, located in the province of Palermo, Sicily, is a key part of our expansion in Italy and a symbol of our growing commitment to renewable energy across Southern Europe. With an installed capacity of 37.2 MW, this plant will begin operations in the first half of 2026.

Together with the Francofonte project, Lercara will produce enough clean electricity to power approximately 51,000 people each year and will avoid the emission of nearly 73,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually—equivalent to around 27,000 round-trip flights between Palermo and the Maldives.

This fully permitted project was acquired from GreenGo, one of Italy’s leading renewable energy developers, and marks our first steps in Sicily. It is a strategic milestone for BNZ, not only in terms of energy production, but also in our ambition to generate long-term value for local communities.

At BNZ, we believe that building solar plants goes hand in hand with building trust. That’s why we’re focused on ensuring that this infrastructure contributes to the sustainable development of the region—through job creation, technical excellence, and environmental responsibility.

As part of Nuveen Infrastructure, we are working to expand a renewable portfolio that exceeds 1.7 GW across Southern Europe, and Italy plays a central role in that mission. Lercara Friddi is a key piece of this vision—a project designed to power the future, while rooted in respect for the land and its people.
