Francofonte

Specs

Technology: Solar
Capacity: 90,5 MW
Status: Under development
Country: Italy
Area: Francofonte (Siracusa)

The Francofonte solar photovoltaic plant, located in the province of Syracuse, Sicily, is one of our most promising projects in Italy. With an installed capacity of 90.5 MW, this plant will significantly contribute to the country’s energy transition. It is expected to enter into operation by the end of 2026 and will generate enough clean energy to supply thousands of households annually, avoiding approximately 51,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year.

Francofonte is part of a strategic acquisition we carried out in collaboration with GreenGo, a key renewable energy developer in Italy. This plant reflects our commitment to 100% renewable energy and our long-term vision for sustainable growth across Southern Europe.

Beyond its environmental benefits, the Francofonte project represents a unique opportunity to collaborate with the local community. In coordination with the municipal authorities, we are promoting the creation of an innovative agro-energy community. This model integrates local farmers and institutions into a shared, open energy system—especially relevant in this area, known for its outstanding citrus production.

This approach combines clean energy generation with agricultural development, creating social, economic, and environmental value. As part of Nuveen Infrastructure, at BNZ we believe every solar plant should also be a local growth engine.

Francofonte is more than just a photovoltaic plant—it’s a symbol of how to advance the energy transition in a fair, inclusive, and sustainable way.
