BNZ, an independent power producer (IPP) specialized in the development, construction, and operation of renewable energy projects, has signed a strategic agreement with Sungrow as its preferred supplier of battery energy storage systems (BESS), covering a total of 240 MWh. This deal is part of the global framework agreement recently signed between Sungrow and Nuveen Infrastructure, which owns BNZ.
The contract includes the integration of energy storage into the solar projects operated by BNZ in the province of Viterbo, in the Lazio region, specifically the Rinaldone (45 MW) and Camposcala (53 MW) solar plants.
This partnership will accelerate the rollout of BNZ’s storage portfolio in Europe, where the company is currently developing 530 MW of battery capacity within a total pipeline of 850 MW. This is part of its multi-technology strategy, which already exceeds 2.7 GW across solar, wind, and storage.
The contract covers the full supply of BESS equipment, including batteries, containers, power conversion systems (PCS), and medium-voltage equipment (MVS), as well as commissioning services, on-site acceptance testing, technical training, and a third party energy management system (EMS).
In addition, the agreement includes a Long-Term Service Agreement (LTSA), covering extended warranties for key components, annual preventive maintenance, 24/7 remote monitoring, and performance, availability, and energy efficiency guarantees.
BNZ advances battery integration within its renewable portfolio in Italy
The deployment of energy storage is one of BNZ’s strategic priorities to further integrate renewable energy and contribute to a more flexible and stable power grid.
The Rinaldone plant, already operational, generates enough renewable electricity to supply approximately 16,000 households annually and avoids the emission of around 23,000 tonnes of CO₂ each year.
Meanwhile, the Camposcala plant (53 MW), also located in the province of Viterbo and already in operation, produces enough clean electricity to meet the annual needs of around 17,000 people. Its output avoids approximately 18,535 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year.
Italy will be one of BNZ’s earliest deployment markets for energy storage, with close to 1 GWh planned across eight projects, mainly in Lazio, Sicily, and Puglia, where the first installations are scheduled to begin this year.
